The Food Bank

The Chautauqua County Food Bank, 17 West Courtney Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048 can be reached by calling 366-5054 and is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.  The Food Bank is a depot for donated and purchased food that's distributed throughout Chautauqua County to food programs.  Nearly all community helping agencies benefit from these donated products and HPNAP/FEMA funds.

The Food Bank works with other helping agencies in the county to identify additional areas of need.  Food is given to pantries, and soup kitchens and emergency dining sites in Chautauqua County including adult day care centers and senior citizen complexes. Between 850,000 to 950,000 pounds of food is handled annually to all of the sites.  The Food Bank, now located in the former Koch's Brewery, has provided Chautauqua County pantries, soup kitchens, dining sites and care centers with 2,287,454 pounds of food for the rural needy in the past three years.

NEW FOR 2002

The Chautauqua County Rural Ministry is preparing to launch a capital campaign to purchase and refurbish the northern end of the Coburn Block, formerly home of J&M Plumbing.  Recently, the Rural Ministry building committee met with the capital campaign co-chairmen Linda Dunn and Dan O'Rourke to raise funds to centralize and consolidate it's food programs.  Purchase of the northern end of the Coburn Block, 123 Central Avenue, Dunkirk will allow Rural Ministry to relocate it's food bank operations.  The northern end of the Coburn Block will also provide growth room and a distribution site for the Food Express program.  The Rural Ministry is growing with the community, ready to serve all who need it's services.
