Emergency Shelter Units

The Coburn Block building was built in 1868 by Dunkirk Ironworks.  It is one of two existing buildings from the architectural era that reflected the City of Dunkirk in the late 1800's.  Apartments were established on the second and third floor to accommodate temporary and emergency permanent apartments.  It's first tenant was in 1999.

The Coburn Block consists of 19 units, 17 are emergency permanent.  A family must be in crisis to qualify.  Displaced families and individuals due to reasons beyond their control are eligible for temporary or emergency permanent housing through the Rural Ministry.  Units have one or more bedrooms and are handicapped accessible.  All units are equipped with a furnace and a hot water tank.

The Housing Furniture Distribution Program assists families in need with usable donated furniture.  CCRM offers previously owned quality furniture and appliances to families in need.  Many members of the community donate items that are then re-distributed to individuals on a first come - first served basis.  The items vary, but  an updated list of donors and recipients that is revised regularly.
